Transparent reversible prosthesis, a new way to complete the conservation–restoration of a Black Ding bowl with application of 3D technologies

Abstract In recent years, 3D technology has been widely used in various aspects of the entire workflow conservation–restoration. However, majority cases, researchers have mainly relied on technologies to assist conventional conservation–restoration process, and its advantages not truly exploited. this paper, we applied a combination digital acquisition, virtual anastylosis, reconstruction, printing transparent reversible prosthesis with slots for restoration gold foil decorated Black Ding bowl collected by Chifeng Museum Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. While completing physical/aesthetic artifact, principles integrity authenticity cultural heritage, minimal intervention reversibility were followed utmost extent. At same time, also conducted preliminary performance tests material prosthesis, results showed that excellent mechanical properties stain resistance, contributing long-term, stable preservation artifact. This work presents an innovative solution applicable other pieces heritage high significance promotion.
